Habitica

I started using Habitica, early this morning at 1 AM.  The first thing I did with it was punish myself for staying up late.  The next day at work, I set up a more complicated system of punishments and rewards.  By the time I write this at 11:30 PM, I am using Habitica to encourage myself to brush my teeth, read more, and even take some time out of my day to do something to make me happy in the moment.

Habitica is an RPG.  You quest, form parties, level up, etc.  The catch is, the only way to interact with the game is to make to-do lists.  You can set long-term goals, daily goals, or even just nebulous repeatable habits.  Completing or leaving these lists undone is what gives you experience towards levels, gives you gold, or hurts your HP.  For instance, I think I drink to much soda.  Now, every time I drink soda, I have told myself I have to click the "Drank Soda" button in Habitica, and it hurts my poor character.  He loses about two hitpoints, and I feel awful.  So today, I went for tea instead... and then caved after that.  But it helped.

Even now, I am writing this so I can click the "Wrote 250+ Words" habit that I have on my screen.  That way, I can get some points towards the next level and some coin towards a shiny new sword.  And after I publish this, I'm going to bed, before midnight, for another chunk of XP.
